Hotel Famy Inn Kinshicho

The staff were really kind. They explained how the laundry works and even took care of my broken suitcase when I didn't know how to dispose of it. Japan's recycling system is strict, so I appreciated that a lot. My partner and I stayed at this Inn for two or three nights about a year ago. For an inn, the prices were very reasonable. It's next to the train/metro station, with plenty of restaurants nearby. The area is busy and has a lot of nightlife, but we couldn't hear the noise in our room.

The rooms are on the small side, but that's Tokyo. They're clean and comfortable, with free wifi, a refrigerator, and breakfast from 6am to 10pm. The pillows are buckwheat, though you can ask for more typical American ones. The front desk staff are helpful and speak fairly good English. It's a block and a half from both the metro and JR lines, and there's a decent bus station too. Stay here!!!

I won't stay here again. This was a really bad experience that threw off my plans and accommodation arrangements. When I visited Kinshicho in April 2023, I found it convenient. So on July 2, 2023, I booked for the 2024 Chinese New Year holiday, February 7-8, 2024. At check-in, the front desk told me the room was a smoking room. I was shocked because I remembered specifying my preference, but it seemed the hotel hadn't paid attention to the accommodation requests on Agoda. I asked whether the other dates were smoking rooms too, and found that all three of my bookings were. I asked them to change the rooms. I thought I could put up with smoke for one night, but when I went back to drop off my luggage, I found there was no bathroom. The staff showed me the room type information in Japanese, and I learned all three bookings were single "male-only" rooms with shared bathrooms. Agoda's description and room photos clearly showed a different room type, labeled type B on the official website. They didn't say whether it was smoking or non-smoking, whether there was a shared bathroom, or that the communal bath was actually the bathroom for single rooms. If the description had been as clear as the website and hotel order information, I wouldn't have picked it. It would have been a terrible situation if a woman had booked this "single room." The booking didn't cost less than other hotels. I picked this place only because of my itinerary. I'd handled and checked booking details myself many times while traveling, but I didn't expect these issues to be reasonable loopholes. It was a very bad lesson, and I definitely won't choose this hotel again.

The neighborhood looked a little sketchy, though I didn't feel unsafe. The wifi was slow. Breakfast was good, and being fairly close to the station was convenient. The rooms were smaller than I'm used to, but I think that's typical for Tokyo.
