Koru Takanawa Gateway Hostel Cafe&Bar

Yuki made the stay, he’s warm, helpful, and speaks English. His little bar brings guests and locals together, with Japanese and European beers, a good-value Japanese stew each evening, and other dishes too. The hostel sits on a quiet, cozy lane by a school, about a 5-10 minute walk from Shinagawa station. The six-bed mixed dorm was clean and roomy, with plenty of luggage space and lockers, though you’ll need your own lock. The comfortable bunks have curtains, outlets, and reading lights, and the room has air conditioning. Shinagawa is a major Tokyo station with Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen trains to Kyoto and Osaka, plus the Narita Express to the airport. Great hostel.

We got to Tokyo long before check-in, and Yuki took our call and let us leave our things somewhere safe while my family and I went out to explore. We came back at the proper time to check in. He’s a great owner and host, and the beautiful bar is another plus. Even a conversation with him gives you a sense of how good the place is. I’d recommend staying here and will likely choose it again on a future visit. Cheers!

The cafe and bar have lovely food and drinks, and the hospitality was amazing. Tucked away on a small street, the place feels like an oasis in the middle of the city. It’s in a very good spot, around five minutes on foot from Shinagawa or the new Takanawa Gateway station, which is due to open soon. Staying here made me feel like I was living in this amazing city.

The area is really quiet, and the room was comfortable. It’s about a 15-minute walk from Shinagawa station. Great hostel and bar, and I’d stay again.
