The location is great, but the bedding was awful. The pillows and beds had sunk in, and they were all yellowish and moldy.

The location is handy, just a two-minute walk from the nearest station, with a car rental place beside it. I might consider staying again if things improve. The host was slow to respond, and there’s no lift, so we had to haul our heavy bags up the narrow stairs. We’d come from Osaka and had bought quite a few things, which made the luggage heavier. The key was in a padlock-style holder. We thought we had to pull it out, but actually it flips open, and the instructions weren’t clear. The apartment seems old, with a small bed that felt more like a super single than a queen. The blanket was about the same length as the bed, so my wife and I, even though we’re slim, had to fight over it in the cold. The heater made noise on and off. The host told us to turn it off when the noise started, which meant waking up every one to three minutes to switch it on and off during the night. That wasn’t helpful. The host also suggested maintenance come in while we were out, but I declined because we’d have to pack everything away just for the work.

My student accommodation was cleaner and cheaper than this. We booked because the photos showed a clean, well-kept apartment in a great location. When we arrived, reception was unattended. That’s not a problem by itself, but why have it if nobody uses it? There was no soap in the bathroom, so we moved the one from the kitchen, but even then it felt half empty. The bedding was brown and the towels grey. The mattress was paper-thin and rock-hard, with a huge stain on the headboard. The pillows were ridiculously thin, and there was just one with no spares. When we took the covers off, yellow stains covered the bed and pillows. The kitchen utensils were filthy, the cleaning cloths were dirty, and who knows how long they’d been there. The cutlery was wearing away, and the bottle opener was rusty in the same container as utensils that go in your mouth. There were rusty nail clippers too. Why reuse nail clippers and tweezers for multiple guests? The place was disgusting. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

It was hard to sleep with the bathroom fan running. It stayed on constantly and could only be switched off for a few minutes at a time. We could also hear the upstairs neighbors’ footsteps and washing machine, along with noise from the building entrance, because the apartment is poorly soundproofed. We were on the ground floor, with a clear bay window looking straight onto the street from the bed. During our stay of nearly two weeks, the towels and sheets weren’t changed. The amenities, especially in the kitchen, weren’t very clean. The bed was too thin and uncomfortable, and the pillows were small and flat. There are laundry facilities, but one of the two bars for hanging clean laundry is above the bed, which feels unpleasant. When the air conditioning is set to heating, it gives off a musty smell.
