Oakhostel Zen

The beds were wide, comfortable, and spaced well apart. There’s a good kitchen and lounge, and the hostel itself is nice, though it didn’t feel very social. Keep in mind there’s no elevator, and the JR station nearby is up a steep hill, which could be a hassle with lots of luggage.

The room was tiny, with just a windowsill to use as a table, and sounds from elsewhere carried so clearly it felt like people were shouting beside the bed. There’s no elevator, either. On the plus side, the hostel was clean and nicely designed, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s a 6-7 minute walk to a JR or subway station. There was a hair dryer in the room, but only one iron to borrow for the whole hostel, and the pot was in the shared kitchen far from our room.

For the price, this place was well worth it. The rooms and beds were clean and comfortable, and the lounge was pleasant. The kitchen was a nice spot to eat. The showers and bathrooms felt a bit dated. It’s in a good area, close to plenty of restaurants and not far from a Yamanote Line station.

The pods are small but comfortable, and checking in after midnight was no problem. It was quieter than I expected for a hostel, though light sleepers may want an eye mask since people coming and going in the morning can wake you, depending on where you are. Shower privacy was good, and the bathroom was nice, with free shared toiletries. The staff speak English well and were kind and helpful. Public transport and the Airport Limousine bus to Narita are a five-minute walk away.
