I booked a non-smoking room on Agoda, but the man at reception said, angrily, that the hotel had received a smoking-room booking from booking.com. After seeing my passport, he seemed upset that I wasn’t Japanese. The paperwork was in Japanese, which I couldn’t read, and when I said so, he replied, “while you are in Japan.” He was aggressive for about ten minutes. I eventually thought the mix-up might have been my fault, trying to be nice to other travelers, but when I asked, “sir, are you racist?” he didn’t answer. I’d already paid extra when booking to upgrade to a non-smoking room. I showed him that, but he said, “while if you can afford to pay more once, you can pay more.” He told me there was a business problem with Agoda and I had to message them. Then he noticed my bandwist and asked whether I’d run the Tokyo marathon the day before. When he realized I was a professional athlete, he started smiling and his attitude changed immediately. His manager arrived, and I explained how shocked I was. The manager asked the man if he’d become nice after realizing I’d run the marathon. He admitted that he had. I reported this to the police, who are sorting it out now. I left after they suggested there was no room.

The guest bath is great, and there’s a sauna for men. Breakfast is free, too. I’ve been loving the hotel so far, especially the relaxing common area with massage chairs, books, and board games.

The location worked really well: getting to most major spots was quick and easy, and the area was mostly quiet at night. This was my second stay, after a school trip here in 2014, and the staff were kind again and seemed genuinely keen to make things comfortable. The free breakfast was an easy, tasty start to the day. I only managed to use the big basement bath once this time, but it was a welcome chance to relax after being on my feet. Thanks for having me. I hope I’m back sooner than another eleven years!

The public bath was a great way to recharge before another day of exploring. Rooms are compact, as you’d expect in Tokyo, but this place has a lot of charm and Japanese hospitality. It’s centrally located while still being in a very quiet neighborhood, without the Shinjuku or Shibuya crowds. You don’t see many foreigners around here. A real hidden gem.

The staff made the place feel like home. They called a taxi for us without charging, and every morning we had a lovely breakfast. When I asked about good pudding🍮, one of the women on staff even drew me a map. We had a nice tea at the cafe she recommended, thank you! My family and I stayed five nights. It’s an older hotel, but it was surprisingly clean and quiet, and the free breakfast and public bath suited us well. Each night we enjoyed the bath, manga, and massage chairs on the B1 floor. Everyone working here was warm and kind. We’ll definitely come back on a future Tokyo trip.
