Hotel Route - Inn Tokyo Asagaya

The service was really good, and the staff speak English, so not knowing Japanese wasn’t a problem. My room was nice, if a little small, though you don’t spend much time in it on holiday anyway.

The rooms were kept in really good shape, even though the hotel is older. They cleaned ours after the second night. Breakfast is served, and there’s laundry, which I used twice. I also got complimentary coins and bought the hotel mascot. The 24-hour mini-mart had fair prices and what we needed for a short stay. Most of all, the staff were respectful, attentive, and flawless in their service. They deserve recognition. I’m looking forward to staying here again. 🙏

For getting around, the hotel is a three-minute walk from Minami-Asagaya Station on the Marunouchi Line and seven minutes from JR Asagaya, where you can take the Chuo Local and Chuo Rapid lines. There are lots of restaurants and bars near the stations, plus a covered shopping street with places ranging from local bars to fast food. It’s a good-value base if you want a convenient location and a no-frills room, especially as a solo traveler. The rooms are simple, with a bed, small counter, chair, table, closet, and bathroom. They aren’t large, but work well for one person, and two-bed rooms are available too. Staff speak English, and there are English signs throughout. They’re helpful and will hold your bags before check-in or after check-out at no extra cost. Vending machine tokens are complimentary, and the machines have soft drinks and alcohol. There are plenty of amenities, including robes, cotton swabs, shower caps, and other toiletries. The lobby has a smoking room, and staff can make change. WiFi is free, while VOD costs extra. There’s a large free breakfast buffet with both Japanese and Western options. The lobby also connects to a Mini Stop, so you can get there without going outside on very hot or cold days. The connecting door is locked from midnight to 6 AM, though, so at those times you have to go out to reach the store. Some rooms are for smoking. Mine was one because it was the only one available. The room itself didn’t smell of smoke, but the hallways did. That didn’t bother me, but if it would bother you, ask for a non-smoking room. One other thing: the in-room AC is centrally set to either heat or cool, with the changeover happening twice a year, in spring and fall. You can turn it off, but there’s no fan to circulate the air. The hotel is across from a fire station, so an open window at night could mean being woken by fire trucks.

Breakfast is served from 7 to 9 a.m., though the food was just so-so. The hotel is a short walk from the Tokyo Metro and about 10 minutes on foot from Asagaya JR station, with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. My room was small but clean and comfortable. There’s also a floor for women only, and the staff were helpful and friendly.
