Sakura Cross Hotel Ueno Okachimachi

This was our worst experience in Japan. We booked two nights because of the good reviews, but the room and hotel details only came after the reservation was confirmed, when it was already nonrefundable. That’s when we found out there was no elevator, no luggage storage, no basic necessities, and that the room was small. We had to haul all our luggage up and down, and the hotel wasn’t close to Ueno station at all. I don’t believe all those good reviews came from people who actually stayed there. Spend more on somewhere else, or you might regret it like we did.

Okachimachi station is a 10 minute walk away, with convenience stores nearby. We had two adults and three children, and the room made a good base for seeing the city. It had two good-sized beds and a double bunk bed. Only drawback for us was the very small fridge.

There’s no elevator because the building is small, but that was outweighed by the positives, and a staff member even helped carry our luggage down the stairs at checkout. The room was spacious and very nice, with plenty of power points in convenient spots, great accommodations, a shower that heated up quickly, and a large balcony overlooking the area. The staff were very kind. I’d book again.

The building felt quiet and secure, which made it easy to unwind after long days exploring Tokyo. Check-in was straightforward, and the hotel’s communication was clear and helpful. The room was clean, modern and thoughtfully arranged to make good use of the space. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom spotless, and the amenities covered what we needed. Ueno and Okachimachi are nearby, with food, shops and convenience stores right outside. It’s also an easy walk to several train lines, so getting around was simple. A comfortable, convenient and well-maintained base for our trip. We’d happily stay here again and recommend it to visitors.
