The food is delicious, and the tatami dining area is great. Since it’s men-only, eating alone feels totally normal, as plenty of other guys do it too. They have free Wi-Fi, and accept cash, foreign cards, and Rakuten Pay. You pay when you leave, and if you try to sneak out without settling the bill, management keeps your shoes until you pay. This aging place combines a public bath, sauna, restaurant, and capsule hotel. It’s certainly less comfortable than a regular hotel, but also much more fun. You’ll need some Japanese, especially in the restaurant, where the menu is only in Japanese. The facility spans three floors, and you have to go up and down stairs barefoot, so it’s not a good choice if you have mobility issues. The lockers on the capsule floor are tiny, less than a handspan wide, though that’s true of capsule hotels generally. There are somewhat larger lockers by the spa floor, but they don’t give you a key for those by default, presumably because they’re so old that they can’t be trusted. That’s a shame, since the easiest morning routine would be to move your things from the capsule floor to a larger locker by the spa, then take one last shower without having to put on your already-worn capsule pajamas to go back upstairs.
On my first sauna visit, I found the setup excellent, and the place was nearly empty despite being just 1-2 minutes from the station. The cold plunge could be about 2 degrees colder, but the sauna itself has a lot of potential to become much more popular. The building and bathrooms are consistently clean and well maintained. Female staff patrol and keep an eye on everything, which I appreciated. My one discomfort was a strong damp, musty smell by the changing room lockers. It’s an older facility, so perhaps that can’t be helped, but the smell was quite noticeable. The restaurant is closed, and sauna-only guests can’t leave during their stay, so there’s no proper meal option if you’re there a long time. Instant ramen and curry rice are sold, which can tide you over, but I wish they made their own sauna food. I hope the restaurant opens again. Edogawa Ward doesn’t seem to have saunas in Nishikasai or Kasai, and Shin-Koiwa Rainbow is in Katsushika Ward, so I wonder if this is the only sauna in Edogawa Ward. I hope this excellent place keeps going for many years. I’m looking forward to coming back.
On a weekday night I found the place quiet, and the bath and sauna weren’t very busy, which made for a comfortable stay. The location is great, just a one-minute walk from Funabori Station, and the staff were nice. I was glad to find an affordable place despite the high cost of living. Thanks! Getting around inside isn’t as convenient, since the only way between floors is by stairs. The capsule was roomy, but the mattress and blankets were thin, and I’m not used to that, so I didn’t sleep well. The lockers are in the capsule area and too small for large bags. To get there, take the elevator to the 5th floor and check in at the front desk, then go up to the 6th floor for the capsules. The bath is on the 4th floor and the dining area is on the 3rd.
I came in for an early morning bath, and I appreciate that they offer an early morning course. The locker room aisle is narrow, so people have to be considerate of one another. The locker bands and sauna mats are very worn and should be replaced. There’s a TV in the sauna and the volume is pretty loud. You can unwind with manga in the relaxation area, and the restaurant next door has a nice menu and atmosphere.
I came to this hotel because there was a funeral nearby. The building feels a bit old, but it was spotless, and the staff gave excellent service. The bathroom was spacious and relaxing. I’ll definitely stay here again if I’m in the area.
