The Gate Hotel Tokyo By HULIC

We tried three hotels on our Japan trip, and this one was easily our favorite. A Ginza station entrance is right outside, making it a perfect base for exploring the city. The rooms are spacious and clean, and we loved having Japanese-style baths and showers after a long day out. The bar was great for a nightcap after dinner. We'll be back!

It's in Ginza, so a great spot if you want to shop. The Imperial Palace is only a short walk away, and Tokyo railway station is one subway stop away or an easy walk. Getting to the subway at Ginza was simple. The hotel itself was quiet and clean, with modern rooms finished to a very high standard. Service was exemplary throughout.

The room was on the top floor with a view of the Sky Tree, but it felt a bit run down and very pedestrian, so I gave the rooms 3 stars. I'd stay again if the rooms were updated. The location is great for exploring Asakusa and walking to The Sky Tree tower, and the metro and train station are a short walk away, which is handy for getting around Tokyo. Staff were polite and helpful. We enjoyed the breakfast and its service each morning, and the sky deck was a nice bonus. We enjoyed our stay and give it 4 stars overall.

For a hotel charging this much and calling itself five-star, this was extremely poor. I paid extra for the corner suite, the most expensive room, but on the first night they simply told me it wasn't available. They also wouldn't discount the king room they moved me to, one category down. Instead, they offered credit for the bar or breakfast, both of which were mediocre and not where I'd spend money in Tokyo, with all the great food and drink in Ginza and elsewhere. Very poor booking standards. I paid extra to get extra, but didn't.
