Tosei Hotel Cocone Ueno Okachimachi

I’m American, and if you expect large rooms and the typical USA experience, don’t come with that mindset. This is a lovely small room with the basics covered. I used the washing machine, which was a must for my airport clothes. I spent most days walking around the city and had no complaints. The splatters mentioned in earlier comments were gone from our rooms, so I think they take reviews into consideration. When the room was cleaned, our things were left alone apart from the bed, which I appreciated because I’m particular about my stuff. The shower and bathroom are small. Honestly, though, I’m a student traveling for fun and used public transport for 95% of the trip. If you’re past retirement age, maybe increase your price range and look elsewhere. For city and student folk from America, it’s a great stay: the basics are there, and it’s close to the station and market. Shibuya takes 30-45 minutes by public transport, but I didn’t have much trouble with that. I even took a little power nap on my way here.

Uniqlo, GU, and Donki are all nearby, and really everything is within walking distance. The train station is super close too, so getting around is easy. The room is typically small, like most hotel rooms in Japan, but the air conditioning worked well. I’d been a little worried because some reviews said it could get hot. I had a very good stay here for 10 days and 9 nights in April 2026.

The staff were the best part of my week here. Everyone was so kind and helpful, and the hotel is only about 5 minutes from the JR station. My room was small, but the bed was comfortable and they provided clean pajamas. It really felt like home.

We spent a week here and would happily come back. The older man at reception was especially kind: he made calls to help us arrange a last-minute post office delivery and booked a taxi so we could get there. Such great service. Because we had the room set to do not disturb, they left fresh towels and water hanging outside our door each day.
