Hotel Villa Fontaine Tokyo - Hamamatsucho

For a work trip of one to three nights, this place should be fine. It’s affordable and close enough to food, and the rooms are spotless by Japanese standards. The people are really nice and go out of their way to help foreign travelers. Still, the weak Wi-Fi, limited strong power outlets, and not very effective air conditioning made for an average night’s sleep. It sits somewhere between a three- and four-star hotel. For a holiday with family or friends, you may find better value if you plan ahead. Stay longer than a few nights and the shortcomings will likely start to get on your nerves.

The trains were so loud they could make it hard to sleep, and the place felt run down. My room was clean and a reasonable size for a Japanese business hotel, but neither bed had working USB plugs in the headboard, and there were no power outlets nearby. I booked it for one cheap night before taking the monorail to HND. It should suit a tight budget, but I think spending a few thousand yen more for another hotel would be worthwhile.

It wasn’t too expensive, and the place was nice despite being a bit cramped. The staff were friendly, although I didn’t need anything from them. The sink wouldn’t drain, which was the one downside.

The twin room was just right for two, not too big and not too small. It’s in a quiet area, which worked really well for me. The TV has Netflix, so there’s something to watch.
