This old house is narrow at the front, then opens into a long succession of rooms. By the entrance, a little shop room has a window onto the street, where the peddler once sold his medicines. The main bedroom opens through sliding doors onto a small garden, and the tatami room is a lovely place to sit and leave the world's noise behind. I could watch the azalea shiver in the faint sea breeze. Cabinets and chests fill the house, and I found myself wishing they still held dried herbs and roots, with old recipes for balms and remedies tucked away inside. The atmosphere made for deep, restful sleep. I didn't want to wake up, there were so many more stories to dream. It's also the perfect place to read Inoue Hisashi’s tanuki tales.

We came to spend the three-day weekend in Iwase and stayed here. It was really clean, and being close to my favorite sake shop made me glad I picked this place. I enjoyed my first visit to Toyama so much. Thank you 😊

I'm from Toyama, but I hadn't known such a great place existed in Toyama City. It's worth a stay for both visitors from outside the prefecture and people who live here. The old streets of Iwase and the sea are nearby, so a slow walk around is nice too. We stayed two days and one night as a family of three with our one-year-old daughter, and it turned into our best trip ever. The place was much bigger than I expected, almost too big for just the three of us. I worried a little about bringing a child, but it was no problem. There were plenty of family-friendly things, including toys and children's tableware. I also loved the furniture that preserves traces of the old medicine shop. It feels retro and stylish at once, and the whole space is calming. I'd definitely encourage people to try staying here.

Two of us, both women, stayed one night on July 16th. Stepping through the entrance, we were struck by how lovely the place was. Its “eel bed” layout lets you look through to the living room, the two bedrooms, and even the garden at the back. The quality furniture and kitchen were impressive, as were the old medicine shop items that fit so naturally among them. We slept peacefully and woke to soft sunlight coming in from the garden. My mother is from Iwase, so next time I'd like to come with my parents or sisters.

The best part was being right on Iwase's main street. I used the guesthouse as a base to wander around town and try some sake, which was wonderful. We booked the “Enjoy the Whole Iwase Town Plan,” with dinner delivered from local restaurants and a breakfast set provided. The stay was very satisfying, and the location made it easy to explore. Inside, the traditional Iwase feel and tasteful furnishings make a lovely impression as soon as you enter. Thoughtful touches and hospitality to make guests comfortable were evident throughout. I had a very pleasant time and will definitely return.
