I stayed six years ago and still remember Tsuwano and Hoshi Ryokan fondly. The town sits among the mountains, feels sleepy and steeped in history, and has a surprising amount to see. Returning from a day out at the ryokan felt like coming home. The rooms are huge compared with hotels and even ryokan in bigger cities, and the food is fresh, traditional, and delicious. The atmosphere makes you feel transported to a simpler time. Everything was very clean, and the owner is a wonderful woman who charms you right away. I only left a review on booking back then and forgot to post one on goggle too.

The inn is right across from the train station, and our stay was a real highlight in this super cute town. We had a double-size tatami room with gorgeous traditional screens. The shared bathrooms were spotless, and our hostess was so friendly that she even let us check in early. Both dinner and breakfast were tasty, and we got to experience some Japanese musical culture, which was so kind of them.

Tsuwano is a lovely little mountain town, and we had a great stay. The staff were attentive and lovely, the rooms were spacious and well furnished, and dinner was delicious. Highly recommend.

Hoshi Ryokan was super clean and tidy, and the staff were really friendly and went out of their way to look after us. The food was seriously delicious, too. If you're in Tsuwano and need somewhere to stay, I'd definitely give it a try.
