The fresh, tasty meals and the warm welcome made our stay at Urashin special. The owner spoke English quite well, and the whole place is a beautiful, spacious guest house. They even took us out to see fireflies, washed my shirt after I struggled with my chopsticks, and drove us to the next village for an ATM and then to the train station. My wife and I stayed a couple of nights while on holiday from Australia, and we loved it. I highly recommend Urashin for an authentic Japanese experience.

Such a lovely host and an amazing place. They were so sweet, and made us the most delicious bento!

That early start for the Tadami Line at 5 a.m. meant I had to leave first thing, which was a shame after such a memorable stay. Even though I was there just one night, they had drip coffee and yogurt ready in the morning, along with a nice onigiri bento for 500 yen. I chose the place because it was cheap, but the hospitality was fantastic. There was coffee in the lobby, and tea and snacks in my room too. I’d definitely like to stay again. Thank you!

I stayed with my dog, since they have pet-friendly rooms. The New Year’s food was a real treat, and both dinner and breakfast were filling. There were more than 20 guests during ski season, yet meals came without a wait and everything felt comfortable. It’s a restful guesthouse where time seems to move slowly. I’d be happy to come back.

We spent New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day here, two adults with our large dog. The guesthouse felt genuinely relaxing, with kind staff, a welcoming atmosphere, and facilities that seemed well worth the price. It’s spacious and clean, and sasamochi (bamboo dumplings) were waiting when I got to the room after check-in. The bath isn’t a hot spring, but it’s roomy and very clean, probably after a renovation. Towels are set out by the large public bath, so there’s no need to go back upstairs for them. Meals had plenty of variety and used local ingredients. There’s also a coffee and water corner in the lobby that’s nice for chatting, plus a very docile, cute cat. One drawback: the shower in the large bath had extremely weak water pressure. There was also a strong cigarette smell in the second-floor hallway, which could be a problem for anyone with lung disease or asthma, or who dislikes smoke. There’s something to do in every season, from winter skiing to spring and autumn hikes and treks, or swimming in the river in summer.
