Pension Unbirthday

I called because I couldn’t figure out how to book online for two adults and three children. The person who answered, whether the owner or a staff member, was pushy and confrontational, asking things like, “What are you trying to say?” I’d read reviews saying they were kind, so the call really surprised me. I won’t be going there.

The bunk beds made me feel much less anxious about my preschooler sleeping in a bed for the first time. My child sleeps restlessly, but there was no worry about falling out, and the slide was an instant hit. It was a great setup for a family with kids, and we all slept well. Getting back after Disney was easy since Shin-Urayasu Station is away from the crowds heading toward Tokyo Station. There’s a big Aeon Mall right by the station, so finding food and other things we needed was no problem. A taxi from the pension to the station is 1,100 yen. We came to Disney for the first time with our preschooler, and the owner kindly helped with rides to and from the station. We’re very grateful, and would stay again when we’re next in the Kanto region.

For a place near Disney, the price was exceptional, and I’d happily stay again. We booked at short notice for four people. The room was small, like a room in a converted house, but had the basics, including a bunk bed and slide that the kids enjoyed. Breakfast came with the stay, and the owner’s daily soup was delicious. We were there two nights and had pumpkin soup and potato soup. A convenience store and drugstore were only a short walk away, and they also drove us to Disney. Parking is first come, first served, and may be tricky with a larger vehicle.

Everyone was warm and attentive, and my wife was already saying she wanted to come back. We stayed as a couple with our one-year-old, and the room was clean and roomy, with mattresses on the floor. They gave us three mattresses even though it was meant to be a co-sleeping room, which made sleeping comfortable for all of us. The thick, long-sleeved rental pajamas felt too warm in September, so check what’s available then. I asked, and they may have lighter ones. The breakfast is simple, bread, yogurt, soup and a drink, but the portions are generous. The bread is baked there and tastes good, and the tableware is stylish. Drinks are self-serve from a pitcher. They drove us to Shin-Urayasu Station on the way back and to the park on the way there. The fifth-generation Odyssey had plenty of room, even in the third row, and Disney music was playing. The only reason I’d rate the service four stars is the husband’s driving. His acceleration, braking and steering felt abrupt, and after a tiring day at the park my wife got dizzy. I know they’re busy with families, but gentler driving would help.
