Guest House Paper Moon

I booked more than a month ahead, but several basic things were missing. There weren’t enough toothbrushes, towels, or sheets for the number of guests, so I had to contact reception each time. The person answering didn’t say who they were, and I wasn’t sure I’d reached the front desk. I also had to ask before they gave me the room key number. At around 9,000 yen for a room without meals, the basic service setup needs a lot of improvement. I hope they improve it.

The terrace was nice, and the stars looked beautiful at night. It’s a spacious whole-house rental with a lovely interior. There were futons for four in the Japanese-style room and two beds in the room at the back, for up to six guests. The gravel driveway is sloped, so drive carefully, but you can take the car right up to the house and park there.

The owner gave us a tour and was very kind, with detailed tips about nearby supermarkets and sights. The guesthouse is a single-story building with two separate rooms on either side of a central entrance. It can host two groups, up to 8-10 people total. On our first night, it was just the two of us and another family in the next room. Each room has its own barbecue garden, divided by a low hedge. You can see the other guests if you turn around, but we weren’t bothered by noise and still had privacy. The second night we were the only guests, which made it even easier to relax without worrying about disturbing anyone. We didn’t stay in the smaller room, so I can’t say much about it, though it seemed big enough for about four. The larger one has a Japanese-style room and looks suitable for 5-6. Basic cooking utensils are provided, and several supermarkets, convenience stores, and family restaurants are within a 10-minute drive.
