October 19-20, 2024 I booked a room without meals before going to Fuji Speedway, after reading reviews about the wild birds here. It seems the guesthouse is affiliated with the Wild Bird Society of Japan. The cottage-like interior reminded me of a cold European region, and the old inn smell added to its relaxing feel. There was a bird feeder, so wild birds of different kinds came by, along with squirrels and even deer. Varied Tits seemed to be the most common when I visited, and they often came within about 20cm of the window. If you love Varied Tits, this place is worth considering. I watched them from waking up until checkout. I'd stay again if I return to the Lake Yamanaka area.

We had the pension to ourselves on the Saturday at the start of a three-day weekend in September, so it was very relaxing. Outside, there were deer in the forest, birds visiting the pension, and all sorts of flowers in the garden. The bath had two washing areas and was very clean. I couldn't tell if it had jets or a circulation system. The dim lighting bothered me a little, as did the moldy, old-house smell outside the room. It was nice that we only needed to speak with the staff at check-in and checkout.

Birds kept coming to the water area visible from the lounge, one after another. If you love birds, this place is a must.

A really nice guesthouse, with a clean interior and a homely feel. It's in a quiet spot near Lake Yamanaka. Breakfast was sufficient, though there was no dinner. In the early morning, you can see birds and squirrels from the window.
