The free-flowing hot spring water was fantastic, and the staff were very welcoming. The New Year's Eve meal was a surprise too. I learned the inn is run by the Marutoku Fisheries Department, which made sense given how much fresh fish there was: sashimi, simmered fish, and fried fish, along with duck hotpot and the nostalgic okuzuke (simmered porridge). There was also a variety of fruit, all for such a low price. It surprised me two or three times over. My only letdown was that they didn’t have hair oil. If you’re in the mood for fish, this is a place you’ll want to stay. The accommodation was reasonably priced, though maybe they could add abalone and crab and charge a little more.

Day-trip bathing costs 700 yen. When it’s a weekday and the place is empty, you can really enjoy it to your heart’s content. I last visited about 10 years ago, and the management has changed since then. The hot spring water is still just as good, though it felt hotter than I remembered. The previous proprietress said it was good for the skin, including dry skin and atopic dermatitis. If I go again when there are no other guests, I’d like to ask the current proprietress for permission to post a photo of the bathroom.

The hot water was just the kind I like, nice and hot. The day-trip visit came with a tasty lunch box at a reasonable price. The bathing area is a bit small, though, and I wish there were an open-air bath. (>_

The autumn leaves were especially lovely, and the view of Zao was amazing. The staff at the inn were so friendly, too. It’s a relaxing, old-fashioned house-style inn with very pleasant water straight from the hot spring source. I’ll definitely visit this hot spring again.

There’s plenty of hearty food, and the views around the place are great. You can move around freely. I’m not posting photos here. Guests can decide for themselves.
