Reception was good, but service was slow. I couldn’t say anything about the rooms since I hadn’t booked to stay and didn’t get to see them. What I did see was disappointing: the pools seemed poorly maintained, with stagnant water that didn’t seem skin-friendly. The hotel looked like an abandoned ruin, and dusty cutlery was used. Dirty spoons were set on our table, which disappointed me and the people with me. These are mistakes the hotel could easily own and fix, then I might recommend it.

The place is very affordable, quiet, and close to the road and public beach. Breakfast was good, though there wasn’t much variety. The attendants were friendly and supportive, and having no TV meant more time interacting with each other. A few things let it down: the manager isn’t trustworthy, there isn’t enough drinking water, the rooms have no fridge, and payment is cash only, which was very disappointing. There are also no entertainment facilities or activities, and no tour guide available.
We were badly let down by Diani Bay Resort. We paid promptly for five rooms for 10 people, and it was very pricey. Later we added more people and paid for an extra room, but the owner wouldn’t give us a break and insisted we take six rooms. The caretaker, Eric, became shifty and wouldn’t answer our calls. His phone is permanently switched off. When our 13 people arrived, only four rooms had been organized, even though they’d received full payment. The linen was very old and didn’t look clean, and they gave us one dirty towel per room. The pool was green, apparently not chlorinated, and the villas had a murky smell. They advertise being 500m from the ocean, but it’s more like 2km. The fridge didn’t work either. Cooking was done with firewood and a meko, and dinner wasn’t served until midnight. There wasn’t enough cutlery, so we had to take turns eating. We were given disposable plastic cups for juice. The place also had inefficiencies, misrepresentations, and nobody to answer our questions. This is pure wickedness. After we cancelled the booking, nobody had got in touch. If they don’t refund us, we shall sue. We have pictorial evidence. My family is disappointed!
I stayed there in 2013 and really liked the boutique feel. It was calm and serene, a nice escape from the city hustle and bustle where I could just kick back. The food was good, and the service was well catered to me. The staff were friendly and happy to help, so I’ll make time to return.
A really quiet, comfortable place to clear your mind. The staff are caring and friendly.
