This was our worst experience in Kenya. There were cockroaches, and droppings from a nest above the bed were falling onto it. The room wasn’t clean, and the mosquito net had very large holes. We couldn’t close the windows, so with holes in the net it felt like sleeping outside. Nobody had told us about the windows, and the photos showed windows, though it seems not all rooms have them. There was nobody from the hotel around at night, so we spoke to the security guard. They moved us to an even worse room, with broken paper walls, bigger holes in the bed net, and a window net that had come apart and fallen outside onto the patio. A curtain was all that separated us from the monkeys, mosquitoes, and other wildlife. The security guard could only say maintenance would come tomorrow. Nobody else from the hotel came to help, and they didn’t seem to care. We left without spending even that night there, although we had booked three nights. The security person accompanied us to the hotel on the next street, perhaps as a courtesy since we had to move in the middle of the night with no help. We suppose we were disturbing their sleep. The nearby hotel took us in. The hotel kept our money and refused a refund. Be very careful about where you book.

We chose this place so we could check in quickly after landing. Before we’d even left for Kenya, though, we got a message saying they had no room for us. If you want a comfortable place to stay in Kenya, I’d pick somewhere else, unless you’re happy spending the night in a hammock on the beach.

I was in Upani for work, then decided to extend the trip into a family holiday. The kids had a great time, especially since they love swimming. The pool on the property was well maintained, and the beach was only a few minutes' walk away. I enjoyed my time there, and both the facilities and service were awesome. Keep up the great work, Upani team!

We liked it enough to extend our stay. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to make us comfortable. The guesthouse is tucked away in Galu Beach, about a five-minute walk from the beach and within walking distance of restaurants at all price points. Mojos is a good shout for affordable, tasty food. There’s a well-equipped kitchen with plenty of fridge space if you want to cook. The place was peaceful, though a couple of cheeky monkeys woke us in the mornings by banging on the shutters.

The quiet and sounds of nature made it feel like a little hidden paradise. Rooms are spacious, the pool is nice, and there’s good infrastructure, with very pleasant service too. We’ll definitely come back someday. Best regards!
