Maiyan Resort

The grounds are beautiful, and the villas are lovely. We especially enjoyed the private plunge pool and jacuzzi for relaxing and taking in the surroundings. Staff were generally friendly and helpful. On the first day, some dietary requirements for members of our group, which we’d shared in advance, were overlooked. The team dealt with it well and made up for it at dinner that evening and breakfast the next day. The manager was particularly helpful and got everything sorted promptly. One drawback is the road Google Maps sends you on. It’s in very poor condition and can be challenging, so plan for that. A lovely stay with great service, and I’d recommend it, but be mindful of the access road.

The restaurant staff were excellent, and everyone else we met beyond the front desk was above average. But we had a poor experience overall. After the first guest showered, there was no hot water. We reserved a rooftop hot tub time for 9 pm at check-in around noon, and confirmed it with front desk worker Lizzy before dinner. At 9, it was half filled and cold, despite being advertised as open until 10 and requiring a reservation. At checkout we asked for luggage pickup, but Lizzy said it wasn’t possible because the golf cart was broken. We had to walk over a quarter of a mile from the villas to the lobby on a cobblestone street with our bags. The front desk worker was extremely rude and unhelpful. The grounds, amenities, and villas also need updates and maintenance.

The Maiyan really felt like an experience. The villas are beautiful, the rooftop pools are heated, and there’s lovely foliage and wildlife. The chefs were spectacular, creating food that truly excited the senses. It exceeded expectations and is a must-stay for any Kenyan traveler.

A peaceful spot to unwind, with good food and drinks. Ask for Edna for the spa massage. Horseback riding was awesome too.
