Akogo House - Hostel and Backpackers

Ideal backpackers Airbnb for a short stay. Pocket friendly, inside a gated community, and security is good.

For the price, the hostel is okay and usually peaceful. A couple of times while I was there, someone got too drunk to control themselves, unfortunately. Akogo has a nice kitchen and strong WiFi for guests. Service needs work, though. They rarely answered calls or replied to messages, including when we needed water and nobody was around to pump it. I was told a private room was available, but there wasn't one, so I took what was available. On my first day I had to knock at the gate for quite a while before anyone opened it.

The property is gorgeous, and the facilities were clean and really well looked after. The hosts were lovely and helpful, and the community nearby was great for a first-time visitor. You do need a car or boda to reach most beaches, shops, and restaurants, since the location isn't ideal for walking. Transport was cheap and the weather was great, so it didn't bother me. The WiFi was strong in the public spaces.

We had no trouble with the other people in the dorm, and the service was impeccable. Akogo House Hostel is calm and very affordable for travellers on a budget. The beach and city centre aren't too far, but walking isn't practical, and this is a residential area without nearby restaurants or midnight snacks. We had some trouble paying on time, but the owner was happy to trust us to pay online later. Can recommend.
