It’s a good place to stay and close to town, though the outside noise is a bit much. The location is the downside.

The hotel in Mtwapa is nicely designed, and the pool is good for a swim in the evening or at night. The room was generally great, and the meals were great too, though you have to order them. Water pressure in the room was low, and the internet wasn’t working.

The rooms are neat, the bed’s comfortable, and being tucked away from the main road keeps them quiet. The location is nice for that. But the food wasn’t great, and half of what I wanted was out of stock. The service was painfully slow: it took 20 minutes just to get a menu, then another 20 for someone to take my order. Laundry doesn’t clean underwear, so pack plenty of spare pairs or you may end up buying more like I did. The WiFi is quite slow, though that’s Kenya in general.

Mtwapa is quiet around the hotel, which makes it an enjoyable place. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Kilifi or Mombasa County.

Once you’re inside, it’s a relief to find a clean, nice-looking hotel with a swimming pool, and it works well for a business stay. Getting there felt unsettling, though. The hotel is tucked away from the main road, and the taxi drove through temporary, slum-like structures with people cooking in kiosks along the way. I was scared during the ride.
