Hotel Argyle Grand Hotel Nairobi Airport

The Argyle was a convenient, comfortable place to stay near the airport, just what we needed. Check-in came with a warm welcome, and someone showed us to our spacious, lovely room with a great view of the pool. We tried to use the pool, but all the beds were taken and the water was very chilly, so we sat in the sun with a couple of drinks instead. We ate at the restaurant for convenience. The staff were friendly, though service wasn’t especially quick. The bed was comfortable and the shower was powerful, but the bathroom light wouldn’t switch off all night. In the morning, we took the hotel shuttle to the airport. It’s a short drive, which was lucky, since the bags were loaded in all around us.

The food was disappointing too. Our pepperoni pizza was very average, not what I’d expect from a place presenting itself as five-star. For a hotel at that level, basic requests shouldn’t take repeated follow-ups, but a bottle of water took almost two hours to arrive. We’d booked a twin-bed room and were given a different setup. They said the beds would be arranged properly, but no one came. The TV didn’t work either. It was eventually replaced, though that took nearly an hour. The room seemed poorly maintained: several switches and control panels looked modern but didn’t work, as if appearance had come before function. Service was consistently poor throughout our stay. The hotel fell short on room preparation, upkeep, responsiveness, and food quality, leaving a big gap between its advertised standards and what we experienced. I wouldn’t recommend staying here or choose it again.

Great value by the airport, with a beautiful property, lovely rooms, and helpful staff. We found the community responsive, and this is our go-to in Nairobi. Highly recommend it. Just avoid the hamburger at the restaurant. It was absolutely disgusting and inedible.

The only real snag was check-in: when our group arrived from the shuttle in the evening, just one person was at the desk, so we waited about 35 minutes. The staff were very friendly, though. We stayed for one night before continuing our travels in Kenya. There’s a free shuttle from the airport, and the drive is short. The rooms were spacious and new. The bathroom looked recently renovated, but the shower area seemed a bit worn, which made it look less than fully clean.
