Eka Nairobi Hotel

For an overnight stop before heading onward through Kenya, this worked well, and yes, I’d stay again. Our room was spacious and clean, the staff were good, and the other amenities were very good. The one downside was highway noise, which still came through the double glazing.

The location is the one thing I’d praise, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here long term. Some staff were friendly, while others always looked unhappy. The buffet food needs improvement, and I had frequent brownouts and poor lighting. There was also a problem with the key card slot: after inserting the card, I had to wait 4-5 sec before the power came on. Luckily, I could move to a vacant room. The bed was too soft and gave me back pain during my several-night stay. The bathroom only had a rain shower, so it was hard to wash without getting my hair wet. Laundry never arrived without me calling and following up each time. The room wasn’t soundproof, and I could hear doors slamming and people talking in the hallway. Renovation work made it extremely noisy almost all day, so I couldn’t rest. The gym was hot and stuffy, with old, rusty equipment, no air conditioning, poor ventilation, and little variety. The internet kept dropping. Security also seemed poor: sometimes the main floor door could be opened without a key card because it didn’t close properly by itself. Worst of all, housekeeping came into my room without permission. At 5 PM, while I was still inside and hadn’t asked for cleaning, a housekeeper knocked. I didn’t answer, but they opened the door and entered anyway. I was shocked.

The renovation noise made it hard to enjoy what was otherwise a good hotel. There was so much hammering, and the hydraulic drills were an awful racket even while we sat in the lovely garden. Apart from that deafening disruption, it was above average, with a nice room, friendly staff, and good food. We enjoyed both of our stays.

The food at Eka Hotel Nairobi was very good, and I loved the atmosphere too. I didn’t stay overnight, but the visit still made a lasting impression. The gardens and neatly kept lawns felt like a welcome break from the city, and sitting outdoors in the fresh Nairobi air was an easy way to unwind. It would suit a quiet afternoon or an informal meeting. The menu had a good selection, and the flavors, presentation, and taste all lived up to the hotel’s reputation.
