The rooms were very clean, the staff were accommodating, and reception was great. But the kitchen staff were gossiping about me and my friends in their own language, calling us names and not realizing we could hear them. That was unprofessional and out of line for a hotel of this level. I hope it gets addressed.
The restaurant is quite decent, and the staff are ready to help. The grounds are pleasant, though they could be cleaner, and there's wildlife as well as the chance to go fishing. It's a nice hotel on Mombasa highway. The rooms are good, but could use a few small finishing touches.
We were welcomed warmly, and the place itself is beautiful, but lunch turned into a series of problems. While we waited, a mother monkey with a cute baby came by. We thought she might not want to show it, so we asked the waitress whether monkeys were a problem and she said no. Then, while the food was on the table, another monkey jumped up, grabbed potatoes and ran off, leaving a mess. Later we got chips instead, since potatoes weren't available. One piece of meat was fine, but I couldn't cut the other with my knife; the vegetables were delicious. Nobody checked whether the meal was okay, so we shared the good beef. The waitress and another young woman then used slingshots to keep the monkeys away. We were short on time, so when paying we asked for a Kenyan brandy as compensation. The waitress seemed not to understand, despite speaking English well. After going back and forth with the boss, they asked whether we wanted it because of the monkeys or the beef, mentioning a problem with the oven. What happens in the kitchen isn't the point for me, it's what arrives at the table. In the end they said they never give compensation. That was the wrong decision.
The location is good and the staff were good, but manager Frida was mean and rude. I wouldn't recommend this place to a group of people. It was very disappointing to be told to pay 500 shs for drivers who had enjoyed sitting comfortably in the hotel's chairs.
It's a great place, but the woman working in the dining or kitchen area was rude. I didn't catch her name, and I doubt I'm the only one who found her service unpleasant.
