Milimani Backpackers

The staff are really friendly, and breakfast is good. I also felt very safe in this nice neighbourhood. It’s a handy, relatively cheap option compared with other places in Nairobi for a short stay. The couples’ double room is quite small, though it’s nicely set in the garden. At night, the local dogs might start up what sounds like a concert.

The constant howling and barking from the dogs was the one downside. Earplugs didn’t block it out. Before we arrived, I contacted milimani backpackers a few times and got clear, quick replies. The planned airport pickup for the four of us went smoothly, with a sign bearing my name. Maureen was lovely and helpful when we got there. Even though it was after hours, the kitchen staff made us a delicious meal. Breakfast was nice too, and when I wanted to save mine for later, they were happy to give me foil to take it away.

The meals Chef Steven served were outstanding, and the staff were friendly and patient with all my questions. They also booked my train to Mombasa, something I couldn’t arrange without going to the station or paying online with M-pesa. If you don’t have a local simcard, you may want to get one. The ensuite room was clean and well maintained, with a hot shower and decent wifi bars. It’s in a gated community in Karen, and a night security guard on the property made me feel very safe. The atmosphere was peaceful apart from the occasional neighborhood dogs. I’d stayed in Kenya a couple of times before, but this was my first time here after reading the reviews. Would definitely stay again :)

The area felt safe, and there’s a nice garden. I was impressed by the friendly staff at Milimani during my quick stop in Kenya. They were also very prompt replying to the questions I emailed before reaching Nairobi.
