The Zehneria Hotel

This is an affordable, centrally located option in Nairobi for business travellers, and the management was very cooperative. Mr Niraj deserves a special mention for helping us throughout our stay. The rooms are good, though ours was missing a mirror. We never got a chance to eat here. The reception team gave us a warm welcome, and it’s a good central base for business travel.

Location, pool, and affordability are what bring this up to four stars for me. The room itself is average, maybe three-star quality. The AC was okay, cool at best. The shower feels like it’s from the 1990s and is just so-so, and its poorly sealed door lets a little water onto the bathroom tiles. The laminate floor is intact but buckles in several places. Room internet is a bit weak and drops out for a few seconds at random. Service is nice, and the pool is great, though there’s no changing room or extra towels, so bring one from your room. The granite floor is slick with little tread, so watch your step. You have to pass through the dining area to reach the pool, which is awkward because of the layout, but not a big issue. I can’t speak from my own meal, but my friend returned both a half glass of Merlot and some food, saying the wine wasn’t good and the food wasn’t worth the price. The place felt safe and decently clean, and the service workers were pleasant and well-mannered. We walked to the Nairobi street eating complex and Havana bar in about 10-15 minutes. One odd thing: I asked about laundry service, and the price for a single item was the same as one load at a laundromat back home in the US. I expect hotel laundry to cost more, but this was even a bit above Tsavo West National Park Severin lodge.

Wycliffe gave especially good customer service, and all the staff made me feel welcome. The rooms and kitchen were clean and really comfortable. Great hotel.
