Forodhani House

We celebrated a birthday here, with Forodhani as the main party house. The staff were courteous, helpful, cheerful, and kind. Felix was especially adorable, a real darling. They could make any idea happen, from a projector for movie night to a Bluetooth speaker for dancing or yoga. The chef was outstanding. Every meal, snack, and barbecue was divine. The house has a deliberately rustic beach-house feel, like stepping into a lavish period drama. There’s a rooftop with lovely views, and the view from my bedroom window was enviable. Even though the pool is narrow, it was clean and hygienic. Each evening they turned down our room, sprayed an undetectable insecticide, and set up the mosquito nets. I didn’t want to leave!

Eight of us spent three nights at this excellent five-bedroom villa right on the water. The staff and chef were great.

Forodhani has become a memory I’ll carry fondly for the rest of my life. I’d spent ages imagining what it would be like to stay somewhere I’d only admired in pictures, and the real place was even more wonderful than all the photos I’d saved. For me, Forodhani is a feeling of warmth, joy, and beauty that’s hard to describe until you experience it. Everywhere I looked there were beautiful views, and the house felt thoughtfully put together. From writing at the desk in my room to taking a shower, I could enjoy the ocean views. Chef Silas’s meals were always delicious, and my table was set by the pool with a lovely view of the ocean. Isabelle was kind and helpful, making everything clear. Airport transfers were organized and on time, and activities were arranged with care. I stayed alone but never felt awkward or out of place. The staff anticipated what I needed while giving me space to be myself. It was a lovely change of pace to slow down, enjoy the coffee table books, and experience such kindness from everyone I met. Thank you to the whole Forodhani team for making my first time in Lamu so wonderful. Because of you, Shela will always mean a lot to me. ♡
