The beach is the one downside. Small rocks make it hurt when you step into the water. Otherwise, it’s a quiet place with comfortable cottages, lots of greenery, and two playgrounds for kids. Seems good for couples with children.

Breakfast was a mess: it was very basic, the waiters weren’t attentive, and three different ones brought semolina pudding even though some was already on our table. We had to ask twice for knives, and it was either pudding or scrambled eggs, not both. We also had to pay for music in the restaurant. Our terraced house had two bedrooms and a dining table but no chairs. Toilet paper, toothbrush glasses, and batteries for the remote were missing, the room hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guest, and the bathtub leaked. Terrible value for money. Avoid!

The pier and beach are what earn this place its four stars for me. It’s right on the beach in one of the best spots in Issyk-kul and looks good, but I wouldn’t call it more than a two-star hotel.

In summer you can enjoy it here in Choktal. In winter there’s nobody around, and the water is very cold.
