The age of the place didn't bother me, it has a bit of charm. What did bother me was how poorly maintained and unclean many areas were. The kitchen was disgusting, many rooms had no proper curtains so morning light made it hard to sleep, and some outlets were broken. The one I used burned during my stay. Wi-Fi showed a signal but never worked in the 10 days I was there. One staff member with black hair was the main reason I wouldn't stay again. She made the experience miserable and caused a whole fuss about a price difference of around $1 after I'd already been there for a week. Know what to expect.

The room was large, which is the only reason I gave it two stars. It really wasn't ready for guests. Every bathroom soap bottle had 7-8 dead mosquitoes inside and only a little soap left, as if it had been sitting there for 3-4 months, like in the pictures. The room smelled strongly of cigarettes. We left the windows open for an hour, but the smell didn't go away at all.

The rooms are spacious, and I even had a balcony. It's old, but gold, with an incredible atmosphere if you're after Soviet nostalgia. Of course, you shouldn't expect a Marriott Hotel here, that's not the point. Come see for yourself.

I've stayed here a couple of times over the past five years. It's a good-value hotel, and the staff are friendly and always try to help. The rooms are spacious and clean, though some renovation work is needed here and there. The location works well if you want somewhere quiet. It's about 10 minutes by marshrutka to either the national park entrance or the city centre. I'll definitely come back when I'm in Kyrgyzstan.
