Tagaytay Karakol Hotel

We found the hotel spotless and cozy, and taking off shoes at the entrance makes sense with so many hikers staying there. The breakfast was one of the best we had, and laundry came back quickly after days of trekking. It’s a lovely family-run place, with a reception team that was especially helpful. I’d happily recommend it for a comfortable stay in Karakol.

We stayed two nights, spent one night in Jyrgalan valley, then returned for another night. The location worked well for us, with good restaurants and Issyk Kul ski resort not too far away. Our room was clean, the bathroom was nice, and the shower had reliably hot water. It was peaceful, the staff were very accommodating, and breakfast was good too. Thanks for being so friendly while we were there.

The owner was very hospitable, but I didn’t enjoy my stay and found the hotel overrated. It’s about 1 km from the city center, so getting to the center and bus station means a walk. The room had enough space but felt outdated, the bed was uncomfortable for me, the bathroom was tiny, and I could hear my neighbor snoring through the poor soundproofing. It was cold at night, so I had to ask for another blanket. There was a refrigerator, but the owner had switched it off to save money. If they want to attract tourists, they should have the equipment set up. The front desk speaks some English, though I wouldn’t count on getting travel advice there. Breakfast was poorly presented, with lots of sweet options and little substantial food. Laundry cost $0.85 per item, which felt overpriced. They also asked whether I wanted their taxi, and I said no. I felt they were trying to overcharge foreign tourists. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

The receptionist’s hospitality made my day, and the breakfast was great, so I gave it five stars. My room was really warm thanks to the huge heater, which was welcome in winter. It would be nice to have a kettle and water in the room, though I’m sure they’d bring them if I asked.
