Mr Wai, Veasna and Vannak made a huge difference when I arrived with badly hurt feet and could barely walk. They arranged X-rays, brought me ice and the right medicine, and even found me a wonderful walking stick topped with a carved elephant. I can't think of a hotel where I've been treated with this much kindness. 10/10. The place itself is a beautiful French colonial mansion, about 100 years old, with loads of history and character.

The manager sorted out our ride to Kampi to see dolphins, then arranged a minibus to Kampong Thom for our departure. Since we had an early pickup, they also packed breakfast boxes for us. We stayed in what used to be the French governor’s residence, a lovely old building with several tastefully furnished suites. It has the feel of a 1920s house party, and you can borrow evening wear, though nobody did. The pool is a good size but unheated, and the restaurant food was good. Breakfast on day one was a letdown after a group stay, with buffet eggs sitting warm, but they made fresh eggs when we asked. Breakfast was much better the next few days.

We had a wonderful stay, with a great atmosphere, nice rooms and good food. The staff were friendly too. Reception service could be a little better, though that's a minor thing.

From check-in through check-out, the service was exceptional. The restored colonial-era mansion is beautiful and has been done with real taste. The food was excellent at breakfast, lunch and dinner.
