Sokchea Kampot Hotel

We were lucky to hear about this hotel. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, and the swimming pool is huge and clean too. There were families staying, but our room was still quiet. They even provide a free tuk tuk into town.

I spent three days here and really enjoyed it. It’s in a quiet area, but the hotel tuk tuk gets you to the town centre in a few minutes, so getting around was easy. I’d happily stay again. The place is clean and secure, the rooms have great A/C, and the staff are kind, helpful, and hospitable. The pool was cool and clean, without too much chlorine, which I appreciated. Breakfast is available if you order ahead, and they bring it to your room. It was about $5, very nice, and came with a choice of American or Asian breakfast, plus tea, coffee, and juice. I think they may offer other food and drinks too, though I went into town for lunch and dinner.

For $35 a night, this place gives you a lot. The room and pool are both big and nice, the TV is about 40 inches and enjoyable to watch, and the small fridge actually cools drinks well. There’s plenty of parking, and guests can borrow bicycles for free. Staff and service were friendly and helpful. At first I thought the location felt far because you have to cross the bridge, but once we were there it seemed fine and close to downtown. A few things could be better. There’s no restaurant, breakfast, or other food available. On the plus side, you can bring your own food and drinks and enjoy them by the pool, or try nearby restaurants. The water pressure was okay and usable, though it could be improved. The hotel is close to downtown but sits on a quiet, dark road, so I wouldn’t recommend walking after 7 or 8pm. Grab was active at night, and we used it from 8pm until 11:30pm without any trouble. I’m really glad we stayed here and would definitely recommend it.

We stayed six nights. The first day was fine, but on the second evening we came back from a tour with food and couldn’t find anywhere outside to sit and eat. The hotel doesn’t serve food at all, not even breakfast. There was a barbecue and party in the courtyard, almost like a village festival. I was happy for the local people, but we had nowhere to sit. There was only one chair in our room, and we ended up eating on the roof in a quiet spot, sitting on the walls because there were no tables or chairs up there either. The bathroom flooded after every shower, and the toilet seat was loose. There’s free tuk tuk service into the city, but sometimes the wait was long or it didn’t run because no staff were on site. The WiFi was good. I can’t recommend this hotel for stays of several nights.
