FCC Angkor by Avani

The hotel and its location were five-star for me: central, quiet, in a lovely neighbourhood, with a beautiful pool. I was disappointed by the service, though. Earlier that year I stayed at another Michelin key hotel, a local brand in Indonesia, and unfortunately that set high expectations. I was especially disappointed that turndown wasn't offered without asking. For the first two days, I specifically requested it and asked for mosquito repellent to be sprayed in the room, since Siem Reap has so many mosquitoes after sundown. On the third day I didn't ask, expecting it would happen automatically, but it didn't. When I came back from dinner, the bed hadn't been turned down. I also told reception the plug-in mosquito repellent had run out, and they said they were out. Another morning I went to breakfast 30 minutes before closing, but many dishes were empty and weren't replenished for perhaps 10-15 minutes. I even had to ask them to restock the plates. I expected more attention to detail. In response to the FCC Management Team: I was disappointed to read the claim that housekeeping records showed turndown was offered and respectfully declined at 8pm on my last night, 16th February. That isn't true. I was leaving for dinner and usually tell reception then that I want turndown and the room sprayed. There were many guests checking in and the receptionists were busy, so after asking for turndown the two previous nights, I left expecting it would be done. When I returned around 11:30 pm, it hadn't been done. The bathroom mat was dirty from our tours that day, and coming back to the room that way was unexpected. I wasn't in the room at 8pm. I was at the Phare circus then and can show my tickets if needed. It seems there was miscommunication among the team, but I know what happened during my stay. It's terribly disappointing that housekeeping is blaming the guest.

There are lots of plants, and I loved the pool set among them. The rooms are beautiful, with a lovely antique feel. The location is fantastic, along the Siam river and only a 10-minute walk from Pub Street. Staff were friendly and helped arrange a TukTuk or taxi to suit your preference.

The staff were professional, friendly and always willing to help, and everything felt clean and well organized. The property looks new and beautifully maintained, with two pools, a bar and a restaurant. Its location right in the centre makes everything easy to get to. We had a wonderful stay at FCC Angkor and would happily return. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality hotel in the city centre.

The personal service was warm from the start. Our driver, Ven, was waiting at the airport in a clean, new black van. The ride to the hotel had great conversation that never felt overwhelming. Staff greeted us and showed us to our room. When they learned it was our big wedding anniversary, they offered an upgrade to a superior garden suite with its own small pool and an outdoor shower. It became one of the most memorable hotel suites we've stayed in. The hotel has a distinct boutique feeling, and we felt at home right away. Everyone, from management to the cleaning staff, was accommodating and sincerely keen to help. The street-view bar was fantastic, and the restaurant on the second floor was great too, with amazing food and top-notch service. FCCAngkor made our stay so special and memorable. If we get the chance, we'll certainly return.
