Neth Socheata Hotel

For parking, you have to leave the car on the main road and walk a few minutes, and there’s no elevator to the triple room. We’d confirmed several times with staff that a triple room would fit my family of seven or eight, but there was barely space for six. When we asked what could be done, the staff were rude and shouted at us. We did get 50% refunded, but after checking with them repeatedly, it was a terrible experience for a one-night stay. We ended up finding somewhere much better and more spacious for just $15 extra. A bad start to our family trip in Siem Reap.

Friendly service and very reasonable prices. Some rooms have a small balcony, and the room stayed cool even when we took the key with us, since the power didn’t switch off. There’s a good hot shower, a kettle for coffee water, and air conditioning. The hotel is in the middle of the block, away from the busy streets but close to the river, market, Pub Street, and lots of good places to eat.

This local hotel has some soul and a nice atmosphere, and the price and location are good. There are restaurants next door, though from the ground floor you hear their clatter, and the doors and windows don’t seal, so outside noise comes through too. Mosquitoes were everywhere. The TV is old and doesn’t work. I did appreciate the electric kettle, coffee, and creamer. The air conditioner is the main problem: it cools for five minutes, then the compressor shuts off for fifteen, over and over. The room eventually gets somewhat cool, but not enough for me, and it stays very humid. It takes hours to cool down, so I wish I could leave the AC running while I’m out and return to a cold room. I really wish they’d fix those ancient units.

I had a really nice stay. The staff were wonderful, the room was clean, and everything worked. The location is handy, right by the market and Pub Street, and only a minute’s walk from the river.
