Mittali Beach Hotel

Ben made our stay extra special, and we felt the property showed real care for both guests and the place itself. We woke to birdsong, with the ocean just across from us. The cottages are lovely, simple but equipped with what you need, and the showers feel close to nature. It's a tropical little gem amid the concrete around it, right across from one of Cambodia's cleanest beaches, with warm water. A great choice if you want a proper holiday.

I wouldn't recommend staying here. The place feels run down and needs care, and the pool water looked so dirty that we didn't want to swim. It was hard to communicate with staff because they didn't understand basic English. One young guy did try and used his phone to translate, while others laughed or ignored us. Our room was a decent size, but it had no TV despite the booking saying there would be one. There was rubbish under the bed, presumably left by previous guests. The door didn't close properly, and the air conditioning was loud and couldn't cool the room enough. When we had water, the pressure was very low.

The bungalows are old and not maintained well, though the staff are friendly. The location is good, with the bay right in front, and there's a swimming pool. They can arrange tables for dinner by the beach, and you can rent a cooker if you'd like to have a barbecue.

The only thing I liked was the location. The room felt unfinished even though I heard the hotel had been open for ten years. Most things couldn't be used: the TV didn't work, the shampoo and body wash had no labels, and the bathroom looked incomplete. I also saw rats near the pool and in the room. The free breakfast menu listed a European-style option, but when I ordered it, I was told they didn't offer it. We had to catch an 8 am boat to Koh Rong, so breakfast was meant to be from 7 to 8. We waited at the table from 7 until about 7:54, and the included breakfast still hadn't arrived. Food we ordered and had to pay for came out within ten minutes. Nothing else about the hotel was good for me.
