Richell Hotel, Andong, early November 2025. I gave it 4.2 out of 5 and would return. I’d recommend it to solo travelers or friends taking a short break, couples wanting somewhere peaceful, and people looking for simple, clean lodging near Andong’s cultural and historic sites. The hotel seemed easy to find by GPS, on a wide main road among modern buildings and cultural sites. The area felt calm and green, with tree-lined streets. The building has an imposing, tiered facade in earthy colors. Nearby are a restaurant and what looks like a garden pavilion, adding a traditional Korean touch. Parking appeared available both underground and at street level, though I couldn’t see a clear sign in the photo, so designated parking on or near the property is only suggested by the layout. The entrance is spacious, with a flat path suitable for wheelchairs and rolling luggage. Wide doors lead to a bright lobby, where wood paneling and polished stone give a warm, modern feel. The front desk looked sleek and organized, with a safety barrier and information sheets; staff appeared professional. Soft but adequate lighting and tidy public areas made a good impression. There’s an adjoining café area called “Rosemary,” a cozy spot for coffee or an informal meeting. My room looked minimalist, probably set up for ondol floor heating. The twin floor mattresses had neat white linens and pillows, and looked clean and comfortable. Warm, focused lighting made the room feel restful, and there was an outlet between the beds for charging devices overnight. Wood-style laminate flooring gave it a homely, clean look. Large windows ran nearly floor to ceiling, with sheer blinds for privacy that still let in daylight. Outside, I could see modern buildings, distant hills, and a glimpse of autumn trees, which made the room feel open and calm. The bathroom wasn't shown, so I can't confirm its condition, though the general upkeep suggested an ordinary hygiene standard. The lobby and café looked spotless. The layout and basic amenities suggested efficient service, and the staff seemed likely to be both professional and helpful for local or international visitors. There’s also a restaurant named “Rosemary” on the building exterior. I didn’t see food, so I can’t say more about its menu or whether it’s in the hotel or the adjoining complex. The café gives guests a place to sit and get a light refreshment. I wasn’t given pricing information, but the clean facilities, good lighting, and quiet feel struck me as good value for a simple, comfortable mid-range stay.

I expected a rough stay after reading all the bad reviews, but the room for three turned out to be quite decent. It was clean, and the flooring and room seemed to have been renovated. There’s a nice, big living room. The toilet hadn’t been renovated, though it was clean and everything worked. Staff were helpful and quick when we asked for extra towels. My only complaint is the mattress felt too hard, which is just personal preference. It wasn't all that bad. Sorry the room photos are messy, we’d already slept in the beds and had luggage all over the living room.

I wouldn't recommend it. The beds feel like stone slabs, and it was so noisy that people were still outside at 3 am while the staff did nothing. Getting sleep was tough. Breakfast was OK. The hotel is 5 km from the center, with nothing around it, and I missed having good bars and restaurants nearby. I won't come back.

For a city out of the way like Andong, the big rooms and spacious bathrooms are a plus. The mountain and dam views are amazing, the A/C works amazingly well, and the TV has more channels than I've seen anywhere else in Korea. There's a small café for breakfast and coffee, but little else. I found someone else's hair everywhere, though, and the linens and surfaces seemed questionably clean. Maybe it suits Western travelers more, but check that your room is clean. Three stars at best.

The room was pretty nice and clean, and the staff were helpful. They only speak a little English, so knowing some Korean would help. There’s just one card key per room, and no gym or swimming pool.
