Golmangtae

Having breakfast together and chatting about our lives made me feel like more than an ordinary guest. The kind gentleman who looks after the place with his aunt and a Vietnamese friend treated us like his children. It was an authentic, very pleasant stay in the Korean countryside, and I'd recommend it to anyone reading this.

The rooms are tastefully decorated, though the bathroom could use an upgrade. When the weather turns bad, there's a large tea room where you can sit inside, and they also offer various workshops. Everything is made from their own garden, including herbs, flowers, and fresh wild ginger. There’s a generous breakfast and dinner on request, along with delicious free tea and homemade rice wine. Run by a very friendly man, this tranquil place is magical and feels like much more than an overnight stay. The view is beautiful.

The owner and staff give excellent service, and I recommend trying the tea and wine. Golmangtae Pension sits beautifully tucked into a hill, with lovely grounds and a convenient location near the Boseong green tea fields and other local attractions. It was the perfect stay in Boseong.

A few small additions would make the basic necessities easier: mugs, tea or coffee in the room, an electric kettle instead of a burner, and a small microwave. Some shelves in the vestibule would help with personal belongings since there’s no closet. It would also be useful to have local store and restaurant details, including phone numbers and hours, plus the main dining and cafe menu and hours posted in the room. Travel is about experiencing a different environment, so I wouldn't want to recreate the comforts of home, but these changes would take little effort. I’ll come back for sure.
