Thebay Hotel

The location is excellent, just a couple of minutes from the main strip, the station and buses, with the beach around a 10-minute walk away. It was super cheap, and I felt like we got what we paid for. The room was roomy enough, though there was definitely a strange smell and the mattress wasn't especially comfortable. It seems set up more for pleasure than for a good night's sleep. I liked the retro-cute decor, actually, and all the tech made me think how modern it must have seemed when the place first opened. You can even control the lights with the TV remote. Our stay wasn't like the recent reviewer's, though I'm not surprised.

I booked two nights a month ahead, but at check-in they suddenly asked for another 50,000 won, saying prices had risen for a public holiday. That extra charge was never mentioned when I booked. At the end of the trip, they wouldn't let us leave until we'd paid. It felt like being held hostage over about 30 bucks, and I should've called the police. This is basically a sketchy motel, not a proper hotel. Stay away.

Really good hotel. I'd recommend it, and I'd come back.

For the price, I think it's good value. The rooms are big, the heating works well, and there's an electric blanket too, so I slept comfortably. It's a decent spot if you mainly need somewhere to sleep. The facilities do feel a little dated, though.
