Toyoko Inn Daegu Dongseong-ro

The best thing is how close you are to restaurants and nightlife, but you’ll need to go out if you want to do much. It’s an okay place if you don’t expect to spend time in the room. A few advertised details were disappointing. Breakfast was described as continental, but the selection was extremely limited. The room listing mentioned a hot tub, which I took to mean a large bathtub, but the tub was tiny. Some amenities were awkward to use: the humidifier and kettle couldn’t sit comfortably with their outlets by the suite desk. I had to put the kettle on the floor, and the humidifier was basically useless. The fridge was plugged in but didn’t work. Service was average. When I asked about upgrading my suite, I got no answer. They did explain the amenities, though those were quite flawed. Housekeeping also requires you to leave the suite for five hours, which I’ve never encountered before. It was fine, if fine is all you’re after.

The coffee machine’s latte was the best coffee I had during my whole trip in Korea, and breakfast was delicious. This popular hotel is right in the town centre, with a really convenient location. The room was a good size compared with their other branch. The man at reception was friendlier and more helpful than the women, so if you can, avoid dealing with the women at the desk.

There are lots of shops nearby, and the few bakeries I tried were all delicious. The room was spacious and very clean, with a bidet. They apparently have coin laundry, though I didn’t use it. Breakfast was tasty but simple, Japanese-style with a Japanese-Korean fusion. I enjoyed my stay here.

The staff helped us figure out how to claim a tax return on the fee and save on parking, which we appreciated. The breakfast was free and nutritious, and the price felt affordable considering everything. I’ve always had a good stay here. The location is hard to beat, right in the city centre next to the shops.
