Gangneung Chonpines Ocean Suites Hotel

The staff were exceptionally courteous and accommodating, and we were very satisfied with our stay. We went in October 2024, when parts of the hotel were still under construction and it wasn’t fully operating, which helped keep the room rates favorable. The room had what we needed, though it didn’t include an iron, cutlery, or plates. That wasn’t a major problem since we mostly ate out. Breakfast cost a little much, but there was a wide range of options. The location is rather remote, so we needed taxis, though there was a bus stop nearby. The beach was easy to get to, and there was an arcade and convenience store on site.

Please look elsewhere. There’s no AC in two of the three rooms, and they charge extra for everything in the room. There wasn’t any silverware unless you paid to borrow it. They also refused to match the price or compensate me for a difference of over 200won. I booked the presidential suite directly through the site a month ahead after researching places for six people. It had three rooms, unlike most nearby hotels, but I later found they had charged me over $150 more. I paid 600Won, while the unreserved room rate was 450won. The front desk said there was nothing they could do because the site sets prices based on its data. I’d strongly advise against booking ahead, since you could end up paying significantly more.

The rooms are clean, spacious, and really nice. The pool and BBQ area aren’t available, unfortunately. If those matter to you, check when they’re expected to open.

The breakfast buffet on the 23rd floor was great. The apartments are very spacious, with great views, and right by the fishermen’s port. There are lots of fresh fish restaurants within walking distance, though in winter they close early, around 9pm.
