Holiday Inn Resort Alpensia Pyeongchang

The room was clean, and the front counter staff were friendly. Still, I can't understand how this hotel has such a high rating. Everything looked dated, as if it hadn't been updated since the 2018 Olympics. There were holes in the walls and a kitchen counter that was rotting. In the first room, the counter bench was falling apart. Getting there meant going through a ski hire shop crowded with people. We only found the room because another resident kindly showed us the way, with no signs or help from staff. After we asked to move, the second room wasn't much better. They also charge extra for bath towels instead of supplying them. This is the worst Holiday Inn we've stayed at, and I'm surprised they'd put their name on it. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It completely ruined our holiday to South Korea.

The location is lovely, with shops, restaurants, and good amenities nearby, plus plenty of parking. The staff who helped me at check-in and checkout were pleasant and helpful. But the property itself seemed run down, which surprised me because I haven't seen an IHG property in this condition before. Some bedsheets were torn, there were signs of mould in places, and bathroom fittings were broken. Towels weren't provided either. If that's standard here, guests should be told when booking, especially those coming from overseas, so they can plan ahead. I was charged for bath towels when I checked out, which was the last straw. The shower head was broken, there were no towels in the bathroom, and the air conditioning remote didn't work. The place felt very dated, with dirty cabinets, no counter space in the bathroom, and a couch that looked about 20 years old. Worst hotel I've stayed in in 50 years.

We paid nearly €600 for two nights, and it felt like a scam. The place had a hostel feel, with only face towels and two small pillows on the bed. There wasn't any coffee or tea in the apartment, nothing at all. Now we're standing in a breakfast line that's already been an hour. Worst experience ever.
