The rooms were dirty and overpriced, with appliances that didn’t work. Cigarette burns were visible on the furniture even though the room was marked non-smoking. Staff smoke on the stairs, and the smell spreads through the hallways and ventilation.

We liked staying here more than in central Seoul, where we spent our first few nights. The location has good transport, food, and bars nearby, and the room was spotless with a comfortable bed and Netflix on the TV. The owner was lovely too: he gave us a souvenir when we arrived and secretly handed me a rose for my girlfriend’s birthday so I could give it to her. He deserves the credit for that.

Check-in was really frustrating. The front desk couldn’t speak English or help locate our booking, even after I showed the employee the confirmation email several times with the guest name, booking reference, dates, and other details. The reception, floors, and room all smelled strongly of cigarettes. There seemed to be pubic hair on our floor, and there was a dead bug in the bathroom. Not a pleasant stay.

The bed was comfortable, and there was internet and hot water. The reception staff couldn’t speak English, but they were helpful using Google Translate, including ordering a taxi for me. At checkout around 6 a.m., though, nobody was there. That was frustrating since I can’t call or speak Korean.
