Gumi Time Hotel

We booked online at the last minute for a quick night while cycling through Gumi. The staff were expecting us, and they let us keep our bikes in a secure garage. Check-in went smoothly. You can buy the amenities in a separate bag for W1000, less than a dollar, and lobby coffee is free around the clock. The room was one of the biggest I had during my stay in Korea, where I was in a different hotel nearly every night. The bathroom was clean and huge, with a massive tub that felt like a sauna. Restaurants and shops are just a few minutes' walk away. Getting our bikes out in the morning was the one problem. Even at 9 am, nobody was at the desk to open the garage. We waited a long time, then somehow reached a phone number, and a woman came to help. One thing to remember: return your room key. In South Korea these aren't the disposable kind we use in the US and elsewhere. We forgot ours and eventually had to mail it back. The hotel was nice about it.

I spent two weeks here alone on a business trip and was very happy with my stay. There are lots of restaurants within walking distance, and the rooms are spacious, quiet, and comfortable. Mine had a large TV, a cozy bed and pillows, a small heater, an air purifier, a luggage table, and a roomy coffee table. American breakfast is free except on Mondays. There's also a free washing machine, though you need to buy your own detergent. Satellite TV is available, and they provide a free charger with two C pins and one for iPhone. Rooms are cleaned daily, and you can keep your key card instead of leaving it at reception. A couple of things to know: the bathroom is just inside the entrance, separate from the main room, and gets cold in winter because there's no heating effect in there. There's no cupboard, just a small stand with a few hangers, so for stays over a week I'd bring extra ones. The room has a small fridge with a litre of water refilled each day, but no microwave. I'd recommend the place for solo travelers and business trips.
