Gunsan La Siesta Hotel

The owner and her daughter were so kind that they made me feel like I was with family. It was very quiet, and the landscape around the place was beautiful.

I spent two nights here in Gunsan. The place is rustic and well outside the city center, with roosters crowing early in the morning. The two-night stay cost under 60,000 won, and it seems to be entirely unmanned, perhaps because there aren't many staff. The interior was cluttered and seemed to need a lot of hands-on attention. On arrival, I had to call the owner from the first-floor front desk. After they verified who I was, I got a room key. I later realized they could recognize me on CCTV. My first call was cut off, and when I tried again a few minutes later, I heard a baby crying. I felt sorry and uncomfortable, and wondered whether the owner would be able to look after guests properly, which was disappointing. Checking in by phone in the early evening also felt unsettling. I don't drive, so I had to use public transport to get into town the next day. Luckily, I'd ordered bean sprout soup for breakfast in advance. The owner came to the kitchen while I was getting it ready, so that was when I finally met them. They told me the No. 82 bus to the city runs every two hours, or 120 minutes, and sent me its route on Naver. Towels, hot water, disposable shampoo, soap, bottled water, and shower facilities were all supplied in adequate amounts. If you're visiting Gunsan for the first time and don't drive, I highly recommend this place.

It's good value, with convenient parking and decent service despite being unmanned. There's a convenience store nearby. Since the bathroom has a shower curtain instead of a door, I'd say it's best for one person. If two or more are sharing, make sure you're close friends.
