OP102 Guesthouse

We really enjoyed our stay at this small family-run guesthouse. The host was lovely with us and our children, and was incredibly warm and helpful even though we didn't share a language. It's quiet, and only 3 minutes from the park with the tumulus. I highly recommend it!

There are guest rooms tucked behind the café on the first floor, and more behind the dining area upstairs. The decor has its own style, and everything is well arranged. Rooms are small and charming, with the needed facilities, towels, toiletries, and plenty of suitcase storage under the bed. The cleanliness really stood out. The rooms are bright and spotless, even underneath the bed, and each person gets two towels a day. Large bath towels aren't commonly provided in Korea. Breakfast is a simple but generous buffet with yogurt, toast, eggs, milk, juice, coffee, jam, apples, and bananas. The dairy and drinks are kept chilled over ice, which shows the owner's care with food safety. The second floor smells of coffee beans, and hand-drip medium-dark roast coffee is served at breakfast. It may have been the best coffee I had in Gyeongju. The owner is warm and friendly, and paid close attention to what guests needed despite the language barrier. A couple of drawbacks: there's no washing machine, so laundry means going to a laundromat. The room also gets very humid, and clothes left to dry take two days. Sound carries easily, too, so you can hear other residents.

The price was very reasonable, and the welcome felt warm and friendly. It was peaceful, with a small room, and the location worked really well for public transport. Cuban music at breakfast gave me an energy boost before a day of sightseeing. I'd recommend it to young people wanting an authentic experience.

You can walk to Jungang Market, Cheonmachong, and Hwangridan-gil from here, and it's easy to have a drink on Hwangridan-gil before walking back. There's no dedicated parking, so ask the owners about a spot, or use a decent nearby one. The owners are genuinely kind, and you can feel it's not just for show. The facilities are clean and well cared for. Breakfast is a nice start, with toast, a baked egg, fruit, and yogurt.
