Daebudo (Yeongheungdo) Rainbow Pension

The sunset photos came out beautifully, and it was nice to walk along the nearby mudflats despite all the shells. The staff were kind, and the toilets and showers were clean, though a bit cramped. Some pitches looked better placed than others, especially the beach spots at Site 3 and a few slightly more secluded ones. As with a lot of outdoor places, I wish they paid a little more attention to sanitation.

Getting out at checkout was easy since our group had parked in one row and the lot wasn’t too crowded. Just keep in mind that the drive from Yeongheungdo through Seonjedo to the road on Daebudo took about two hours. It was Sunday, and the road is single-lane; the stretch seemed to be under 5 km, so plan your timing accordingly. We paid 150,000 won for four people for one night, plus 20,000 won per extra person on-site. The sea is right in front, but the tide was out and there wasn’t much to look at. There’s also a tent village around the pension. Check-in starts at 2 PM, so arriving early means waiting until then.

The owner didn’t have to be especially warm, I guess, but the interaction still left me feeling really uncomfortable. The pension owner at the construction site just above the campsite entrance was completely unrelated and, by contrast, incredibly kind. They even lent me a hammer. They’re building a lovely new pension in a spot with a great view, and I’m planning to visit once it’s finished.

The two cats were a bit too forward and getting in the way, which was a hassle. The pension feels somewhat old inside, but it’s okay for a night or so. I liked having the campground and pension together, and the owners were friendly. The ocean is right out front, with mudflats and a sandy beach appearing at low tide, so it’s a nice place to unwind and take a walk.
