Hotel Hugh Loft in Incheon

I paid $106 for a room, which was okay and not too expensive. But compared with other hotels I’ve stayed in Korea, this one wasn’t clean. They also recommended a terrible taxi driver. This morning he drove at 146km/ hour, and my five-year-old was really scared during the 15-minute ride. For the 3.6km trip from the hotel to the airport, he charged 35,000 won, possibly the most expensive taxi fare I’ve paid in Korea. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to overseas friends, especially because of the taxi help. That was the worst experience.

The lobby had a warm feel, and there’s a waiting room for guests by the concierge desk. My wife and I had a very good room for our three-day, two-night stay at the Loft. There aren’t any elevators, but you can manage. I asked the manager for a vase for flowers I’d bought my wife, and they provided one. The only snag was that the night shift concierge wasn’t at his post when I arrived. A worker helped me by phone, though, and the room keys were easy to find.

The rooms were very warm, and we couldn’t turn off the heater even after trying the instructions several times. When we arrived, the receptionist didn’t speak English. They were very helpful, though, when it came to ordering a taxi.

It’s cozy and very clean, with a nice view, though it wasn’t amazingly comfortable. The washroom facilities were good, and it’s close to the beach and some good bars and restaurants overlooking the waterfront. There’s no elevator, but they let me store my bike in the storage room. The airport shuttle was quick both ways, and the price was cheap.
