The extra floor mats made a real difference for us. I slept well on three of them, with frogs calling from the rice paddies and insects buzzing outside. This isn't a luxury stay: you sleep Korean style on padded mats beneath open beams, and the bathrooms and showers are in a separate building. There’s a shared dining and sitting hall across the courtyard, reached through a sliding door, and the sleeping rooms have heating and air conditioning. After a long flight, it was a lovely, affordable way to begin our visit to Korea. The English speaking hostess picked us up at modern Incheon airport, and the 15 minute drive led from modern Korea to rice fields and a quiet, tree covered spot with this traditional 1890s house. Her husband is English too.
